Description

Marriotts Falls Tyenna is a hidden gem near Mt Field National Park that rivals the beauty of nearby Russell Falls.

It offers a less crowded alternative for those who want to experience the beauty of the National Park area.

To get there, head northwest from Hobart on the Brooker Highway to New Norfolk. Follow the winding road of B61/B62, passing Mt Field and the small township of National Park. The turn off to Marriott's Falls is on the right-hand side of the road just outside of Tyenna.

The 3km hike to the falls follows the Tyenna River through rainforest and open plains. The trail is easy to follow and begins at the forked section of the road after the river. Along the way, you'll see wildflowers, the Tyenna River, and remnants of an old timber bridge.

As you leave the river, you'll encounter different terrain marked by orange markers. At the top of the hill, there's an old Blackwood tree and open views of the surrounding hills. Continuing through the rainforest, you'll encounter ferns, fallen logs, and large swamp gums.

Marriott's Falls itself is stunning, with a rainforest section that can be slippery to navigate. During wetter months, the sound and force of the falls are more intense. The base of the falls can be accessed from either side.

There are a few hazards to be aware of, including steep cliff faces and muddy, slippery sections. It's best to visit Marriotts Falls from November to April when hiking conditions are optimal.

In conclusion, Marriotts Falls is a must-visit attraction that offers a range of challenges and natural beauty. It's a perfect destination for those looking to escape the crowds of Mt Field National
