Lake Dulverton

Lake Dulverton in the Southern Midlands region of Tasmania is a stunning sandstone lagoon covering an area of 230-to-233-hectares (570-to-580-acres).

It is located adjacent to the quaint town of Oatlands and offers a picturesque view of the surrounding scenery. One of its defining features is its uneven shoreline characterized by low sandstone cliffs and overhangs. The lake's only island, Mary's Island, adds to its beauty with its small sandstone rock and a few cedars growing on it.

In 1993, the lake dried up and remained dry for years until the heavy rains of August 2010 filled it to almost full supply level. During the dry period, two levees were built, creating three sections of the lake. Only the smallest section near the Callington Mill remained full. When the lake is full, its peaty soils and rock and sand floor provide an ideal environment for numerous waterbirds and pondweed. Additionally, Lake Dulverton is part of a wildlife sanctuary that protects the sanctity of its natural surroundings, ensuring that visitors can enjoy a delightful time in a peaceful and serene environment.
