Museums in Waratah-Wynyard

The Waratah Museum, located in the historic former Courthouse building, provides an up-close experience of Waratah's collection of historic photographs, newspapers, and artefacts from tin mining. Adjacent to the museum, a replica of 'Philosopher' Smith's Hut showcases the conditions of miners during the early days. Operating hours are from 10 am to 3 pm on Sundays to Tuesdays, and group bookings can be made outside these times by calling 03 6439 7100.

The Wonders of Wynyard serves as an Exhibition and Visitor Information Centre, displaying a range of local creative works such as paintings, sculptures, photographs, and textiles. Monthly feature exhibitions highlight the work of local artists and community groups. Permanent Displays at the centre include a Japanese Doll Collection, a life-sized paper sculpture of F. M. Alexander, and a detailed history of the Tommeginer people. Local history information covers the naming of Table Cape, the Table Cape Lighthouse, and the area's unique geology.

Additionally, the Wonders of Wynyard houses the world-class Ransley Veteran Car Collection, boasting over 14 vehicles, including the equal oldest Ford globally. Operating daily from 9 am to 4 pm, the centre offers long bay parking facilities and assistance from 40 enthusiastic volunteers. The current feature exhibition is a Christmas New Year bonanza showcasing the works of Mary Lewis, Jan Suter, and Michelle Bennett from December 2023 to January 2024.
