Sundown National Park is a things to do venue in Stanthorpe, Queensland.

The park covers a vast area of land and is situated at a distance of 198 km to the southwest of Brisbane. The unique features of the park are its spectacular gorge country and several peaks that are over 1,000 meters high.

Sundown National Park is the source of the Severn River that forms the beginning of the Darling River. The river has cut through hard trap rock and has carved a 10 km long gorge.

Additionally, many of the river’s tributaries have formed gorges and waterfalls, making it a visually stunning sight. The park is home to disused mines that contain molybdenite, arsenic, tungsten, copper, gold, and tin.

Shellfish fossils can be found on the summit of Mount Donaldson, which stands tall at 1,038 meters above sea level. Sundown National Park boasts a variety of flora and fauna.

In the north of the park, you will find stringybarks, yellow box, brown box and Tenterfield woollybutt trees. On the riverbanks, there are red river gum, river oak, tea-tree and bottlebrush.

You can observe at least 150 species of birds in the park, including the northernmost population of superb lyrebirds. Sundown National Park is home to the most northerly population of wombats, along with nearby Girraween National Park.
