Visitors can enjoy a unique evening at Shelly Beach as it faces west. On the right-hand side of the beach, there is a reef that protects it from ocean swells.

Cabbage Tree Bay is a tiny north-facing embayment that consists of two small, reflective beaches. The beach is perfect for scuba diving and snorkeling, as it is part of Cabbage Tree Bay, which is a reflective beach with a maximum depth of approximately 12 meters.

The facilities at Shelly Beach include two complimentary electric barbecues, restrooms, showers, and a cafe offering meals, drinks, and coffee. The Boathouse Shelly Beach, which is located by the beach, is a well-known restaurant.

Since Cabbage Tree Bay is part of the marine reserve, over 160 marine fish species, including protected species such as the weedy or common sea dragon, the elegant wrasse, and the threatened black cod, have been reported inside the reserve. Shelly Beach’s location has evidence of Aboriginal occupation, and a shell midden has been recorded near the Fairy Bower car park.

It used to serve as a safe harbor for boat owners as it provides protection from south winds and waves. The hillside was covered with only a few buildings in the early 1920s, but now it is surrounded by costly homes.
