Featuring strong currents, it attracts experienced surfers, and it is a popular location for surfing competitions. Established in 1925, the North Cronulla Surf Life Saving Club is an essential part of the beach as they work to ensure the safety of the beachgoers.

The club has a rich history that dates back many years, with its first patrol of the beach conducted in the same year as its establishment. The club’s role has evolved over the years, and today it has around 500 senior and 250 junior members.

Visitors can take a tour of the club and learn more about its history. The name Cronulla is derived from the Aboriginal word kurranulla, meaning ‘place of pink seashells’.

The beachfront suffered from severe erosion due to stormy weather in the past, which posed a threat to the properties and infrastructure. In response, sea walls were constructed on both sides of North Cronulla Beach in 1974.
