The park is also home to over 130 bird species, including the gang-gang cockatoo and wedge-tailed eagle. Indigenous fauna, such as echidnas, eastern grey kangaroos, wallabies, possums, gliders, and bats, can also be found, along with introduced deer.

The park has cultural significance, as it was once inhabited by the Beeripmo Balug clan of the Djab Wurrung tribe. The highest peak in the park, formerly known as Flagstaff Hill, was visited by explorer Thomas Mitchell in the 1830s.
