Established in 1938, it offers visitors the chance to appreciate nature in a serene setting, nestled in the valley of the Macintyre River.
The reserve is home to a diverse range of wildlife, including platypus, wallabies, kangaroos, and numerous bird species. Birdwatching enthusiasts can enjoy the tranquil environment and spot some of the 80 species of birds in the area.
There are plenty of activities to enjoy at Lake Inverell Reserve. Visitors can barbecue, walk, kayak/canoe, and fish. Fishing enthusiasts can cast their lines and try their luck in the abundant Macintyre River.
Two walking tracks provide stunning views around the lake. The three-kilometer Lake Inverell Walk offers beautiful tree scenery and tranquil water, while the six-kilometer Barayamal Walk passes through Barayamal National Park, offering magnificent views of the surrounding hills and bushland.
Lake Inverell Reserve is open all year round, providing a peaceful escape to nature in any season.
Getting to Lake Inverell Reserve is easy, as it is only 5 kilometers from the town center of Inverell. Visitors can choose to walk, cycle, or drive. For those coming from further away, Inverell Airport is the closest airport, just a 15-minute drive from the reserve.
