Covering approximately 36 square kilometres, Kuitpo Forest Reserve is mostly softwood plantation, with radiata pine as the dominant species. Native forest can be found in small designated areas of the plantation and nearby conservation parks.

The surrounding area consists mainly of farmland used for cattle grazing. Kuitpo experiences a hot summer Mediterranean climate, with hot and dry summers and cool and wet winters.

Visitors are advised to wear appropriate clothing and sunscreen during the summer months. Getting to Kuitpo from Adelaide city centre is relatively fast and easy.

One can take a tourist route starting at a turnoff from South Road at O’Halloran Hill, onto Chandlers Hill Road, and follow signs through Clarendon to Meadows. The area is also accessible from the south through Willunga.
