Visitors can also take a stroll along the Cairns Esplanade boardwalk to enjoy the ocean and mountain views.

The Cairns Lagoon, located in the heart of the Cairns business district, is a large swimming area that is patrolled daily by life guards. It features underwater seating benches and can accommodate up to 1000 swimmers at any one time.

The lagoon is fitted with disability access and the water is sourced from Trinity Inlet and cleansed through a high-tech filtration system. The Cairns Esplanade also offers a variety of facilities and features including playgrounds, sport and fitness facilities, BBQs and picnic areas, toilets, showers, and parking.

The Esplanade also features public art and memorials highlighting the city’s rich history. Dogs are welcome on the Esplanade, but they are not allowed in the Lagoon, the surrounding parklands, or 2 meters from playgrounds and barbecues.

The Cairns Esplanade Lagoon is open year-round, and the best time to visit is during the summer months from December to February
