Artist Miranda Free opens her studio gallery, The Eyrie so that she can share her love painting and depicting the beauty of this world. She has been developing her art practice for nearly 25 years, practicing full time since 2013.
She primarily paints in oils in a contemporary realist style, though she uses a range of other media in her practice. Miranda also works across various genre: landscape, still life, figurative and portraiture.
Her landscapes tend towards the more impressionistic while her figurative and still life works are much truer to life in their execution. Many of her landscape series are about journeys, while others explore temporality and the constant changes inherent in nature.
Living amongst the forests of the Southwest she is inspired by the abundance of native flora in the region and examples are frequently found in her still life works. She prefers to work from life and likes to create still life vignettes that are dramatically lit to create elements of mystery or drama and that include items of personal significance.
