Description

Bay of Islands Peterborough is a coastal park in Victoria that features stunning rock stacks and sheltered bays along the Great Ocean Road.

It offers a spectacular experience without the crowds often found at the Twelve Apostles and Port Campbell. The park is located between Peterborough and Warrnambool, about 400 km from Melbourne and 670 km from Adelaide.

Within Bay of Islands Coastal Park, visitors can enjoy beautiful beaches, dunes, and cliffs. The area is home to the threatened Hooded Plover and endemic Rufous Bristlebirds. There are two viewing platforms at the Bay of Islands, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding scenery. Wild Dog Cove near Peterborough Golf Course is a secluded beach perfect for paddling and rock pooling. Bay of Martyrs is another popular tourist spot with a stunning beach, guided walks along the cliffs, and views of the Falls of Halladale shipwreck.

The town of Peterborough is nearby and serves as a convenient base for exploring the Great Ocean Road. The area has a rich maritime history, evident in the names of the bays named after ships.

The Bay of Islands has a strong Aboriginal connection and heritage. The parkland is owned by the Aboriginal people, who work with local councils and the government to protect the area. Visitors can learn about the Indigenous Australian community's history and traditions through heritage walks and displays along the Great Ocean Road.

Water safety is important at Bay of Islands Coastal Park, as the small beaches are not patrolled. Parks Victoria advises against swimming in these areas and encourages visitors to follow water safety advice.

The best time to visit Bay of Islands Coastal Park is during the summer months
