Description

Located in the Nattai National Park, Mittagong, the Box Vale Walking Track is a 10 km bushwalk that can be completed in about three hours.

The entire track is dog-friendly and suitable for casual hikers and families with children. The track is relatively flat, following the historic path of the coal mining industry in the late 1800s.

The Box Vale Walking Track is an opportunity to explore the Southern Highlands and learn about its history. You will walk through scenic sandstone cuttings, towering trees, and fallen trees, and lush greenery. One of the main highlights of the track is the old railway tunnel that is carved through the rock. You can also explore Forty-Foot Falls, a detour off the track, where you can enjoy a swim or a snack. You can take in the stunning views of the Nattai Gorge from the lookout at the end of the track.

The Box Vale Walking Track is open all year-round, and you can visit anytime depending on your preference. The ideal time to visit would be in Autumn, when the weather conditions are more comfortable to hike, and the landscape is bursting in color.

Box Vale Walking Track is located in Mittagong in the Southern Highlands. It is approximately a 22-minute drive from Moss Vale and a 10-minute drive from Bowral. You can access the car park from the beginning of Box Vale Road, near the Hume Highway overpass at Welby.
