Started by Sharnie Celli almost four years ago, the fence serves as a tribute to her friend Wendy Nikolovski, who passed away from breast cancer in 2017. It was created as a fun and cheeky way to celebrate Wendy's life and leave a lasting memory in the community, while also reminding people of the support and unity found in Mathoura.

The Bra Fence Mathoura has become an iconic attraction in the town, with thousands of bras hanging on the fence as a moving tribute to those who have lost their lives to cancer. Visitors can add their own bras to the fence, creating an emotional and empowering experience. Additionally, there is a donation tin attached to the fence where visitors can contribute a dollar or two. The funds raised are used to provide petrol and food vouchers for locals undergoing cancer treatment, offering support and comfort throughout their journey.

The Bra Fence Mathoura is a year-round attraction, welcoming visitors at any time of the day. To reach Mathoura, one can take a car or a bus from Melbourne, with the town being approximately a 3-hour drive away.
