Wineries in Murray

The Murray region in New South Wales is part of the larger Murray Darling wine region, which spans both Victoria and New South Wales and follows the course of the Murray River. The climate in the Murray region is characterized by its heat, with long sunshine hours, low humidity, and negligible growing season rainfall, making irrigation essential. Despite the extensive distance between the eastern and western ends of the region, the climate remains consistent due to the minimal variation in latitude and altitude. The soil consists of calcareous earth, which is unique to the Murray River system, and ranges from brown to red-brown loamy sand, sandy loam, or loam.

In terms of varietals, the Murray region is known for its Chardonnay, Shiraz, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Chardonnay is the most significant premium product in the region, with wines exhibiting a fruity softness and generosity, offering great value for money. Additionally, some wineries in the Murray region have found success by planting alternative varieties from across the Mediterranean, which are well-suited to the warm climate.
