Description

The Glenelg River Canoe Trail is a scenic journey that meanders through the lower reaches of the Glenelg River, stretching from Dartmoor to Nelson.

Lower Glenelg National Park offers camping sites exclusively for canoeists and kayakers, fishing, rare bird species, and Princess Margaret Rose Cave, perfect for flat water canoeing and kayaking.

Pass under towering limestone cliffs and see the wonders of Princess Margaret Rose Cave, a place of exceptional natural beauty in Lower Glenelg National Park. Stay at the seven campsites reserved exclusively for the use of canoeists and kayakers and try fishing for your dinner on this memorable journey. There are canoe hire outlets in Dartmoor, Winnap, and Nelson. Canoe-only campsites must be reserved in advance for a fee.

The Glenelg River Trail is perfect for a four-day journey, with a popular three-day option and day trips possible. Canoes can be hired from Dartmoor, Winnap, or Nelson. Lower Glenelg National Park is in south-west Victoria adjoining the South Australian border, about 420km from Melbourne and 490km from Adelaide. The major access roads into the park are the Portland - Nelson Road and Wanwin Road.

There are seven unpowered canoe camping areas; Bowds, Georges Rest, Lasletts, Moleside, Pattersons, Pines Landing, and Skipworth Springs. Each location can accommodate a maximum of one person, and toilet and fireplace facilities are shared. Spring water is seasonally available, but must be treated before being used. Vehicle access is available for canoe launching at Moleside and Pines Landing, but Bowds, Georges Rest, Lasletts, Pattersons, and Skipworth
