Wineries in Surf Coast

Surf Coast, a sub-region within the broader Geelong wine region, offers a unique terroir for winemaking due to its coastal influence and varying soils. Previously the largest grape-growing region in Victoria during the 1880s, Surf Coast experienced a revival in recent decades, with winemakers rediscovering its potential for producing exceptional wines. The region benefits from a climate similar to the renowned French wine regions of Bordeaux and Burgundy, allowing for the cultivation of a wide range of varietals including Chardonnay, Shiraz, Pinot Noir, Riesling, and Sauvignon Blanc. The Surf Coast sub-region extends from the wild and rugged coast of the Great Ocean Road to the rich, volcanic soils of the Moorabool Valley.

The diverse landscape provides challenges and opportunities for winemakers, with areas characterized by windswept conditions and proximity to Port Phillip and Corio Bay contributing to the development of distinctively complex wines. The region boasts a number of notable wineries, such as Bellbrae Estate, which offers wine tastings, wood-fired pizzas, and live music against the backdrop of the Great Ocean Road. Additionally, Heroes Vineyard showcases organic and sustainable practices while offering premium cool climate wines.
