Art Galleries in Muswellbrook Region

Nestled in the Upper Hunter Region, the town of Muswellbrook is surrounded by a mix of rural and industrial landscapes, including farming, viticulture, electricity generation, and the equine industry. Since achieving regional gallery status in 1976, the Arts Centre has maintained a diverse and captivating exhibition program.

Home to both the Muswellbrook Shire Art Collection and the esteemed Max Watters Collection, established in the late 1950s, the Arts Centre houses significant artistic treasures. The Max Watters Collection is recognized as one of the most important collections of its kind in Australia. Meanwhile, the Muswellbrook Shire Art Collection features pieces obtained through the renowned Muswellbrook Art Prize, a prestigious art competition within the country.

Offering a variety of exhibitions and events, the Arts Centre hosts local and traveling exhibitions, along with two prominent art prizes – the Muswellbrook Art Prize and the Viola Bromley Art Prize. Open to the public from Tuesday to Sunday, with extended hours available on Mondays by appointment, the venue provides free entry and is accessible to individuals with mobility requirements.
