Narawntapu National Park is a things to do venue in Bakers Beach, Tasmania.

The park rests on Tasmania’s north coast, next to Bass Strait, situated between Port Sorell in the west and the mouth of the Tamar River in the east. It is about a 20km drive east of Devonport, 60km northwest of Launceston and 250km north of Hobart.

Visitors can enjoy exploring the islands in the Port Sorell estuary and the Carbuncle, as well as the land extending to low water mark, including intertidal mudflats. The highest point of the park is 392m above sea level.

Narawntapu is listed on Australia’s Register of the National Estate. The park was established and named Asbestos Range National Park on 29 June 1976.

In 2000, the name was changed to Narawntapu due to concerns that the word ‘asbestos’ could deter potential visitors. The name Narawntapu is derived from the Tasmanian Aboriginal word, referring to the coastal promontories West Head and Badger Head within the park.

Narawntapu National Park has a temperate maritime climate with an average winter rainfall of 750mm. The prevailing winds are from the northwest and northeast, and mean temperatures are 17°C in January and 9°C in July.

Narawntapu National Park is inhabited by various vegetation communities, including coastal heathland, dry sclerophyll woodland, herbland, grassland and salt marsh. The Pygmy Clubmoss, an uncommon plant species, can also
