About Esplanade Reserve
Esplanade Reserve is a things to do venue in Fremantle, Western Australia.
The reserve is found in close proximity to the Esplanade Hotel and it was built in 1902 with the financial assistance of the State Government and land reclamation from private land owned by J. Briggs M.L.C.
Prior to the establishment of the Swan River Colony, the southern Fremantle foreshore followed the line of where Marine Terrace (previously called Fitzgerald Terrace) is located today. Two years after settlement, Henry Reveley built a stone jetty nearby, probably from Anglesea Point at the Bathers Beach.
In 1854, another dock named South Jetty was built nearby. Long Jetty, which stretches one kilometer from Anglesea Point, was built in 1873, and in 1902, more land was reclaimed from the sea, and the Esplanade Reserve was born.
A bandstand was inaugurated in 1906, and in 1908, the first Norfolk Island Pines were planted. Esplanade Reserve is a great picnic spot and an ideal place to take a stroll while enjoying nature.
