About Esplanade Park
Esplanade Park is a things to do venue in Fremantle, Western Australia.
Winter storms caused damage to foreshore buildings and encroachments from the sea and sand drift persisted. A sea wall was built by convicts around 1880, but it brought only partial relief.
In 1873, a kilometre-long Long Jetty was constructed nearby, extending from Anglesea Point. In 1902, additional land was reclaimed from the sea, and with funds provided by the state government and through the resumption of an area of private land owned by J.
Briggs M.L.C., the Esplanade was created. In 1906, a bandstand was opened, and the first Norfolk Island Pines were planted in 1908.
Today, the park remains a popular destination for attractions and activities. Esplanade Park, located on Marine Terrace opposite the Esplanade Hotel, boasts of almost 100 mature Norfolk Island pines (araucaria heterophylla) and the Explorers’ Monument.
The park is an ideal location for a leisurely stroll with family or friends, especially during the summers. One can have a picnic lunch under the shade of the trees or enjoy the sight of the historic Explorers’ Monument.
