Serendip Sanctuary is a things to do venue in Lara, Victoria.

Originally used for farming, it was purchased by the State Government in 1959 for wildlife research and management. Today, it serves as a breeding and preservation center for threatened species and offers environmental education about the local flora and fauna.

The sanctuary is managed by Parks Victoria and was opened to the public in 1991. The sanctuary is situated in the traditional territory of the Wadawurrung People, who have a deep connection to the land.

The park has undergone transformations throughout history, with the arrival of European settlers causing disruptions to the environment and local culture. The introduction of exotic animals and the loss of traditional vegetation have had a negative impact on native species.

Serendip Sanctuary offers various facilities for visitors, including walking tracks, an outdoor learning center, picnic areas, and bird hides. It is a popular destination for bird watching, with over 150 species of native birds to observe.

The park also offers bushwalking trails and a Junior Ranger’s Program for families with young children. The sanctuary is actively involved in wildlife protection and conservation efforts.

It provides a habitat for the Eastern Barred Bandicoot and participates in the recovery plan for this species. The park also works towards the conservation of other bird species such as the Magpie Goose, Australian Bustard, and Brolga.
