About Gordonbrook Dam
Gordonbrook Dam is a things to do venue in Kingaroy, Queensland.
Along with Boondooma Dam, it is the main source of water supply for Kingaroy, serving the Wide Bay-Burnett area. It was initially built to provide water to the Royal Australian Air Force Training Base during World War II.
In 1987, due to increased demand, the dam wall was raised. The catchment of 590 square kilometres supplies the dam with water, which can store up to 6,800 megalitres at full supply level.
The dam covers an area of 130 hectares. Gordonbrook Dam is a great spot for outdoor enthusiasts looking to enjoy fishing, boating, or swimming.
Visitors need to be mindful of the high levels of blue-green algae, especially during dry periods, which can pose a risk to people and animals. The boat ramp now has gates to prevent boats from entering during high-risk times for the algae.
