The section from Bullioh to Shelley features a long and gradual climb, reaching an altitude of 779 metres at Shelley. With easy grades of 2-3%, this climb is suitable for riders of varying fitness levels.

One of the highlights of the High Country Rail Trail is the extensive views of Lake Hume, which riders can enjoy from Wodonga to Tallangatta. The trail also features historic trestle bridges on the climb to Shelley.

It is important to note that facilities are limited from Tallangatta to Koetong, so riders should bring enough food and water for the trip. Future plans for the trail include extending it to Cudgewa near Corryong, significantly increasing its length.
