Content Policy

This Content Policy covers Locafy Limited (ACN 136 737 767), its affiliated businesses and subsidiaries (collectively, “Locafy”, “we”, “us” or “our”). Locafy owns and operates Scoop.com.au (“Scoop”), an Australian lifestyle directory covering restaurants, places to visit, things to do, local experiences and related content, together with any other websites, apps or online services that we own or control (collectively, the “Services”).

Scoop is intended to be a family-friendly destination that people can trust to discover genuine places, businesses and experiences across Australia. As a result, we take the quality, accuracy and appropriateness of the Content published on Scoop very seriously, whether that Content is submitted by a business (a listing) or by a consumer (a review, rating, comment or photo).

Our Content guidelines are built in compliance with applicable Australian publishing laws and standards, and with close reference to Google’s Prohibited Content policies.

1. Prohibited content

Scoop does not support the publishing of listings, reviews, images or other Content that includes, promotes, or facilitates the online sale of, but is not limited to:

  • Adult services and pornography
  • Online liquor sales (this does not prevent the listing of licensed venues such as bars, pubs, breweries and bottle shops, provided the listing does not itself sell or promote the direct online sale of alcohol)
  • Tobacco, vaping and tobacco replacement products and equipment
  • Online advertising or sale of prescription medication
  • Defamatory content
  • Online gambling, except in regions where it is legal to advertise
  • Drugs and narcotics
  • Guns and prohibited weapons
  • Illegal activity, including piracy, academic plagiarism, or infringement of intellectual property rights
  • Racist, hateful or discriminatory content

We reserve the right to remove, decline to publish, or edit any Content that we believe falls into these categories, or otherwise breaches these guidelines, our Terms and Conditions or our Review Policy, at our absolute discretion.

2. Reviews and user-generated content

In addition to the restrictions above, reviews, ratings, comments and photographs submitted to Scoop must reflect a genuine experience with the business or venue being reviewed. We do not permit:

  • Fake, incentivised or paid reviews that do not reflect a genuine customer experience
  • Reviews submitted by the business being reviewed, its staff, owners, or a competitor of that business
  • Reviews that are defamatory, abusive, harassing or that disclose another person’s private information without consent
  • Content that is unrelated to the venue, business, place or experience being reviewed

Content that breaches these standards may be removed, and repeated breaches may result in suspension or removal of a user’s account, in accordance with our Terms and Conditions and Review Policy.

3. Business listing content

Businesses and their authorised representatives (including digital agencies and marketing consultants) submitting or managing a listing on Scoop must ensure that listing details, including business name, description, images, opening hours, menus and contact information, are accurate, current, and relate solely to the business or venue being listed. Listings must not be created under a business name that is not owned or authorised by the person submitting it.

4. Moderation

To enforce this Content Policy we operate a data moderation process combining automated keyword detection with human review. This process runs continuously and reviews newly added or updated Content, including listings, reviews, comments and images.

Due to the volume of Content processed daily, there may be a delay between when non-compliant Content is detected and when it is removed. Our current turnaround for removal of identified non-compliant Content is 2 to 4 business days.

We also enforce rules against Content that constitutes spam or falls into “bad neighbourhood” categories, such as untested supplements, get-rich-quick schemes, steroids, or sexual enhancement products.

5. Reporting content

If you come across a listing, review or other Content on Scoop.com.au that you believe breaches this Content Policy, please let us know using the report or contact functionality on the relevant page, or by contacting us using the details in section 6, including a description of the Content and the reason you believe it breaches this policy.
