The Manhattons, containing some of Perth’s finest musicians, has been delighting audiences at Rodney’s Bar for six years now. Initially setting out 12 years ago to play small group swing a la Benny Goodman and John Kirby, the band’s music has evolved into an eclectic stream of creativity, featuring the imaginative arrangements and original compositions of various band members and Bryant Allard (US trumpeter).
Leader Phil Hatton (reeds and flute) spent 12 years in the USA where he was a featured artist at over 50 jazz festivals and completed a music masters degree. Mike Wiese (reeds) is a consumate musician who is an institution on the Perth jazz scene.
Pianist Tony Celiberti is an effervescent player who studied at Berklee College in the US and has become one of the most admired pianists on the Perth scene. Bassist Manoli Vouyoucalos is a WAAPA graduate and the tastiest of bass players.
Drummer William Wallace has recently completed a four year bachelor’s degree in jazz performance at WAAPA and is an outstanding talent who plays with an artistry and maturity beyond his years!
