Engelbrecht Cave is a things to do venue in Mount Gambier, South Australia.

It is owned by the City of Mount Gambier and has been developed as a tourism venue. The cave is renowned for its dry extent as a show cave and its water-filled extent as two separate cave diving sites.

With its two major passages, the cave has become popular among adventure lovers. The Engelbrecht Cave is located in a residential area bounded by Jubilee Highway West, Ehret Street, Chute Street, and Victoria Terrace.

The cave has an eastern passage that extends about 70 meters from the opening and leads to a lake, where a water-filled passage leads to an air chamber. The west passage, on the other hand, is only accessible by cave diving for most of its length and includes a major air chamber located below Jubilee Highway West.

The cave can be accessed through Chute Street within Mount Gambier’s street system. The Engelbrecht Caves is named after Carl Engelbrecht, a German immigrant who settled in Mount Gambier during the 19th century.

The cave is classified into two categories by the Cave Divers Association of Australia – the flooded portion of the eastern passage is known as Engelbrechts Cave – East, while the flooded portion of the western passage is Engelbrechts Cave – West. The cave is located in Gambier Limestone, formed between 35 and 45 million years ago, with an estimated thickness of about 100 meters at the cave itself.

The topsoil surrounding the cave is volcanic in origin and dates back to the last eruption of the Mount Gambier
