George Brown Botanic Gardens is a things to do venue in Darwin, Northern Territory.

Established in 1886, it is one of the oldest and historically significant reasons to visit Darwin. The gardens curate an impressive collection of coastal monsoon plant species from northern Australia and the South East Asian region.

In the gardens, visitors can see ornamental plantings, waterfalls, a conservatory, a rainforest gully, and a plant display house. They can take leisurely walks to explore the various plant collections or participate in guided tours arranged by the gardens’ curators.

The gardens also offer views of a small creek, lily ponds, and landmarks such as the Darwin Military Museum and the George Brown Darwin Botanical Gardens Visitor and Event Centre. The Botanic Gardens are open daily from 7.30 am to 7 pm during the dry season (April to October) and from 7.30 am to 5.30 pm in the wet season (November to March).

Guided tours operate during the dry season on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 10 am. To reach the Botanic Gardens, visitors can drive, take a taxi, or use public transportation.

The gardens are only three kilometers from the center of Darwin. If driving, visitors can head to the Stuart Highway and then turn into Gilruth Avenue, which leads directly to the gardens.

There are no admission fees to enter the gardens. The George Brown Botanic Gardens have a significant historical significance in cultivating an extensive collection of plant species in the Northern Territory.
