Description

Grab your boots and your friends and meet me (and Pippin the lamb) at the farm gate for your private vineyard experience, after hours!

What's involved?

You'll learn about our trials and tribulations in the vineyard! How our northern Italian winemaking history has shaped the decisions we have made in the vineyard. And what we get up to during the growing period (secret vineyard business).

Bookings are available from October (budburst) to March (harvest time).

It's not all about walking and talking.. We are a working farm and you will encounter some friendly sheep, horses who love a scratch and some rogue geese that love to honk.

We finish up in the comforts of the cellar door with a fun and surprising chocolate pairing. The chocolate is produced by Margaret River chocolate wizards Temper Temper, using local ingredients.

The vineyard tour can also be enjoyed before open hours on request.

Looking forward to catching up,

Paris from Arlewood

Albany Farmers Markets

The Markets' philosophy is to provide producers in the Great Southern Region of Western Australia with a regular weekly direct outlet for their product.

  • Open days/Times:Sat 8am-12pm
  • Activity:Farmer's Markets,Food & Drink

Details

Description

This area is rich in its diversity of farming, but, prior to the market, the majority of product was marketed through Perth (409kms away to the North). Local customers were unable to source direct much of the produce produced in the area.

The establishment of the market on a weekly basis provides producers with a direct outlet for the product and the customer has the choice of fresh, local, seasonal product. This has brought about immense benefits for the producer and customer. No longer is product trucked great distances at great expense, as well as incurring environmental pollution and packaging expenses. Product does not have to have to be picked early to ensure an extended shelf life. For example, tomatoes and strawberries are left longer to "vine-ripen" and are picked and sold at their peak of condition to the consumer. This applies to all product in the market and this has been a key factor in the enthusiasm that the community has embraced the market.

The weekly market is now a colourful and vibrant occasion attracting a wide range of customers from the region.. Its benefits have been to re-energise and focus producers on the quality and variety of their product. The customers not only now enjoy a huge range of vegetables, fruits, farmed meats, seafood and much more each week. They know its provenance and have returned to the seasonality of farming. Genuine excitement fills the market when the first of a new season product appears such as Asparagus, Avocados, Raspberries or Cherries.

Every week the market creates its own synergy between producers and customers. It buzzes with laden shoppers, bags and shopping trolleys rescued from the back of the shed and now put into service again. It is a social event for many, the catching up, the chatter and genuine good nature is evident all morning. It is an uplifting community experience, brought about by the simple sharing of being able to choose first class fresh food. Customers now talk with pride and ownership about "their market" and promote its value to friends and visitors. The ultimate accolade!

We hope that one day you will visit the Albany Farmers Market and experience it for yourself

Our tours will depart daily from the Busselton Jetty at 9:45am and 1:15pm. From there we will take you out into the pristine waters of Busselton to see these loveable giants up close.

After breeding in the warmer waters up north, there will be 35,000 Humpbacks and their calves heading south to Arctic waters. The whales use Geographe Bay as their last resting area before the long swim. We have found them very playfull in previous years and can not wait to see what 2016 can produce.

The Bay also provides a resting area for Southern Right whales. Additionally, 28 Blue whales were spotted last year cruising south after their trip to the Rottnest trench to feed. These giants where surprisingly close to shore and cruising at 8 knots.

We look forward to seeing you and your family onboard!

Description

In 1922 Harry Lewis an artillery horseman in the British Army emigrated to Australia under the soldier settlement scheme and took up land in the Carbunup region of the Southwest, Western Australia. Together with his wife Amelia, they began the arduous task of carving out of the dense bush a small family farm.

Sixty years on, third generation farmers Wally & Dawn Lewis finally completed what Harry started, but realised to survive as farmers they either had to find a much larger property, or radically change their existing business. They opted for the latter and in 1986 began planting vines and flowers. Today there are five acres of flowers, and 18 acres of vineyard with grape varieties: Semillon, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet franc and Shiraz.

After years of providing fruit to other wineries a dream was realised in 2006 when they opened a cellar door, complementing the existing family run flower emporium. The beautiful labels designed for each wine are a reflection on this new direction the property is heading; a future of beautiful flowers and superb wines.

Anniebrook takes its name from the small creek that meanders through the property on its journey to the Indian Ocean.

  • Tour Price:$40 - $90
  • Type:Tours

Details

  • Tour Locations:Margaret River

Description

In 1990, Helen Lee opened her Bushtucker Canoe Tour on the Margaret River, and guided every tour 360 days of the year, for the next 6 years. Having a passion for Aboriginal and natural history, Helen discovered medicinal plants native to the river and coast. Using these plants and natural bush foods, Helen concocted 25 interesting gourmet foods for the traveller to experience. The river and cliffs provide a natural adventure path as travellers follow Helen and her specialist guides through wildflowers, crystal waters in the huge wallcliffe! Aboriginal heritage and  forested islands reveal unique Australian flora and fauna. The pioneer hardships and native foods, plus Aboriginal bush remedies are demonstrated against the backdrop of magnificent Wallcliffe House, 1828-1862. The story of how the river formed 60,000 years ago unfolds as the traveller enjoys food collection, medicine use and a gourmet picnic prepared from all Helen’s collected “Bushtuckers”. Between each river site  and the gourmet picnic, travellers canoe in 2-5 seater eco canoes, stable and silent, in the pristine forest surrounding Margaret River! Swimming is a must,October to May each year!

Helen and her guides’ story telling ability and their passion for the environment bring to life the cultural world of Aboriginal and outdoor Australian life. The tour is fine for active and inactive visitors. Awards in 1996 for excellence in heritage and cultural tourism, and again in 1999 and 2002 have provided strong motivation for Helen to maintain quality, informed and professional tour guiding on the beautiful Margaret River.
