Fremantle Arts Centre will become home to Aboriginal art from all over WA this month as the prestigious Revealed Exhibition returns from March 26 - May 23.

Designed to celebrate the vitality and diversity of Aboriginal artistic practice in WA, the exhibition showcases the work of over 100 new and emerging artists from all across the state. This will be accompanied by the Revealed WA Aboriginal Art Market running March 29 - April 1, where a host of unique Aboriginal artworks will be available for purchase through the online marketplace.

This year's Revealed Exhibition will feature numerous art styles and mediums including painting, textiles, installation, photography, video, jewellery, carving, sculpture and print media, with more than 300 artworks to be displayed at the historic Fremantle Arts Centre.

This year, Revealed includes works from a historic number of independent artists, alongside 31 remote and regional Aboriginal Art Centres. These independent artists hail from places like Broome, Derby, Wickham, Ngarluma (Roebourne), Wadandi (Bunbury & South West), Whadjuk (Perth metropolitan) and Wilman (Dwellingup) Country.

One of the artists to look out for is 16-year-old Chenise Cameron, a Wongatha photographer from Wickham, who creates stunning photos of family, friends and the Country she calls home. Others, like Amanda Bell, are returning artists who have exhibited at Revealed in previous years. A Badimia and Yued woman, Amanda has created a largescale glass and neon installation of her favourite Noongar world Moorditj! (meaning strong, good). An ambitious foray into a new medium for Bell, the piece, entitled From our lips, mouth, throats and belly will beam across the gallery, simultaneously strong in impact and fragile in materiality.

"I had a vision of a beautiful Noongar word, as old as Boodja and as new as now, shining for all to see," says Amanda.
Art-lovers will be pleased to know that all works in the Revealed Exhibition are for sale, so you'll be able to take your favourites home with you.

“Increasing participation for independent artists has been a major focus for this year’s Revealed,” says Fremantle Arts Centre Revealed Exhibition Coordinator Jane Chambers.

“Without the infrastructure of an arts centre to support them, it can be really difficult for independent artists to connect with audiences and find opportunities to pursue their creative practice."

"The strength and variety of their works add a different perspective to the exhibition, which we can't wait to share.”

In addition to the Exhibition, the hugely popular Revealed WA Aboriginal Art Market will be returning, this year as an expanded online event, after last year’s COVID cancellation. The Revealed Market is the only event where you can buy artworks from across WA's remote and regional Aboriginal Art Centres as well as independent Aboriginal artists all through one website.

It presents a rare opportunity for patrons to purchase one-of-a-kind art pieces, as well ensuring and securing a vital income for the artists, with 100% of profits returned to them. Everyone is welcome join the event online and take home a piece of unique art, for as little as $50. There will be an incredible range of paintings, textiles, carved artefacts, homewares, prints, clothing, jewellery and much more, all available for purchase.
