Description

Huka Prawn Park is a unique and exciting tourist attraction located just 10 minutes north of Taupo, New Zealand.

It is the only geothermally-heated prawn breeding park in the world and is currently New Zealand's only prawn farm. The park's giant Malaysian river prawns are grown using geothermal waste water from the Contact Energy Wairakei geothermal power station. The park can produce over 30 tonnes of prawns a year. Huka Prawn Park has become one of the major draw-cards for tourists to the Taupo region, attracting more than 75,000 visitors a year.

The park is situated on 6 hectares of land and offers a range of fun-filled activities for visitors of all ages. One of the main attractions of the park is prawn fishing. Visitors can catch their own prawns using a fishing rod and bait provided by the park. The prawns are then cooked on-site and can be enjoyed as part of a delicious meal at the park's riverside restaurant. In addition to prawn fishing, the park offers a range of other activities such as guided tours of the park, an activity loop with interactive water features, and the opportunity to use stand-up paddleboards, pedal boats, and aqua trikes to pedal over a pond full of prawns.

Visitors are encouraged to pack a picnic, togs, and towels and spend the day enjoying the park's many attractions. Overall, Huka Prawn Park is a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Taupo, New Zealand. With its unique geothermal prawn farming, fun-filled activities, and delicious food, it is the perfect place for a family day out or a fun-filled adventure with friends.
