Karina creates paintings that celebrate walking through the trees and by the ocean; balancing areas of calm with the vitality of expressive marks and paint effects.
She is a classically trained, professional artist who loves everything about paint, and is infatuated by the trees, national parks and coastline of the South West of Western Australia. She now spends much of her time painting in her newly built garden studio, next to the vines, at her Yallingup Siding family property.
Karina’s art process begins with walking; a daily ritual to calm, uplift and inspire her. She uses the time to gather reference material - memorising and recording seasonal differences and atmospheric variations to the ever-changing landscape. With a sharp awareness that nothing in nature lasts forever, Karina uses her work as a means to capture the special places that we care about.
The physicality of paint is an important focus in her work, integrating expressive and experimental elements, within the many layers of acrylic and oil paint. Her ongoing research into maximising depth of field, uses a variety of perspective techniques to help create a sense of spaciousness within her compositions.
The resulting, colourful paintings are Karina’s way of expressing her gratitude, and celebrate the relaxed, natural beauty of the south west of WA.
