In 1990’s Western Australia, Claremont School of Art was where a student learnt representational sculpture.
I was fortunate to attend.
The human form created using clay.
Working from a live model.
Studying bone structure, proportion, muscle mass and planes of direction.
Each model unique yet structurally similar.
My lifelong passion was born.
Creating the female form with clay.
The themes and ideas shown in this current series of work reflect on growth and change.
Figures set within carved backgrounds. Branches and flowers overlaid. Nature surrounds those
surrendering to change. Carved flowers from the bud to full bloom to waning.
Lifecycles repeating.
These female figures are often winged to accentuate the movement of the natural form. Movement
is inherent to change, this change is born of dreams. Our dreams are our strength. They nurture our
growth. The physicality of wings remind us that we can fly.
In our dreams we can fly, anything is possible.
