Description

Powers Lookout Whitlands offers a glimpse into the hideout of Harry Power, a notorious bushranger from the 1860s.

Located high above the King Valley, this rocky escarpment was once a refuge for Power and now provides sweeping views of the valley and mountains, attracting many tourists.

At the lookout, visitors will find a parking area with picnic tables and toilets. There are two lookout points to explore. The first one is wheelchair accessible, while the second requires a short walk with ladders leading to a viewing platform at the northernmost point of the rocky outcrop. From this vantage point, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the valley and mountain ranges.

In addition to the main attraction of the lookout, visitors can also take a 20-minute return walk through the bush to a waterhole surrounded by beautiful rocky ledges. The path starts near the toilets and offers stunning views of the natural landscape.

Powers Lookout Whitlands is open to visitors year-round, but the best time to visit is between December and February when the temperatures are warm and the skies are clear.

To reach the lookout, visitors can drive along the Mansfield-Whitfield Road and take a three-kilometre detour down a gravel road that ends at the parking area. It is approximately a 45-minute drive from Mansfield and a 30-minute drive from Whitfield.
