Description

The Port Fairy to Warrnambool Rail Trail is a popular tourist attraction in southwestern Victoria, Australia.

Starting in Port Fairy, the trail passes through the town of Koroit before heading southeast towards Warrnambool. The trail is divided between the Moyne Shire and the Warrnambool city.

The trail was constructed at a cost of $2.2 million and offers a smooth and safe cycling experience. It follows the former railway line that connected Port Fairy to Warrnambool in the late 1800s. The railway was used for transporting goods and people between the ports and inland destinations but closed in 1977.

The section of the trail that follows Illowa Road is particularly suitable for cycling, with a dedicated bicycle path fenced off for safety. From Millers Lane, the trail continues off-road across Kelly's Swamp and then follows the coast towards Levy's Point. It then runs alongside the Merri River to Warrnambool's Breakwater, providing a scenic view of the sea.

The Port Fairy to Warrnambool Rail Trail is ideal for cyclists of all ages and skill levels due to its smooth surface and lack of steep inclines. Visitors can take their time to enjoy the beautiful scenery, explore the towns along the way, and learn about the region's history.
