Description

Kroombit Tops National Park is a sprawling protected area located in Central Queensland, Australia, between Monto and Calliope.

The park covers a land area of approximately 77,000 hectares and is divided into two parts. One part is situated in the locality of Mount Alma, while the larger area is within the localities of Tablelands, Valentine Plains, Cania, and Boyne Valley. It is located 399 km northwest of Brisbane, with Cania Gorge National Park only a short 25 km drive to the south.

The park has a rich history, being a former home to the now-extinct Aboriginal tribe of the Bailai people. Additionally, one part of the park is linked to the past events of World War II. In 1945, an American Liberator Bomber, "Beautiful Betsy," crashed into the jungle that now makes up the park's landscape. The wreckage was only discovered in August 1994 and has since become a significant historical landmark for visitors.

Kroombit Tops National Park is an excellent sanctuary for a range of fauna, including unique and rare species. One such species is the Kroombit tinker frog, which is only found within the park boundaries. The frog population is estimated to be fewer than 200 and is confined to different areas within the rainforest. Another special species within the park is the silver-headed antechinus, a marsupial discovered only in 2013. For nature lovers and adventure seekers, Kroombit Tops National Park offers a perfect getaway. Activities such as exploring the rugged terrain with a
