Description

The Gerry Green Reserve Parkdale, previously known as the Parkdale Recreation Reserve, is a well-known community hub for sports and recreation activities in the Parkdale suburb of Melbourne, Australia.

It is located at 16 Keith Street, Parkdale 3195, and offers a range of amenities, including sports grounds, multiple tennis courts, and a large playground.

The Gerry Green Reserve has been a significant focal point for the local community since the early 1920s. It was created by members of the local football club who cleared the land to create an oval, now used for cricket, football, and cycling. The reserve has also hosted gymkhana days, annual fundraising events, and Parkdale Gift running races. The Parkdale Tennis Club has been on the premises since 1955, offering six en-tous-cas and three synthetic grass courts, with bar and clubroom facilities.

In 2018, the Cliff Sambell Pavilion underwent a transformation to provide new sporting amenities, upgrades to change rooms, a gym, a larger social area, function space, additional cool rooms, and ease of accessibility. The reserve also boasts a large playground with numerous wooden structures for children to enjoy. It features slides, climbing walls, tunnels, ladders, poles, a big sandpit with diggers, swings, see-saws, and a horse springer. There is a shelter with tables and BBQs, additional picnic tables and seating, and public toilets.

The Gerry Green Reserve is accessible all year round, with the best time to visit being during the summer months when the temperatures are ideal for outdoor activities. It can be accessed by car with ample free parking available, and public transport is also available with bus stops nearby.
