Description

Located on Mt Buller in the Australian state of Victoria, Mount Buller Alpine Resort is a popular destination for skiing enthusiasts.

The resort is surrounded by the Shire of Mansfield and is an unincorporated area under the direct administration of the government of Victoria. Mount Buller boasts a network of 22 lifts, making it the highest capacity ski area in Victoria with an ability to move over 40,000 people per hour. The ski runs vary in difficulty with something for every level of skier. The highest lifted point is 1780 m at Grimus Chairlift and the base altitude is at 1375 m at the Chalet Creek loading station on the Northside Express chairlift/gondola.

Snowmaking is an important part of the skiing experience at Mt Buller, and it began on the mountain in the 1970s with a pilot system on Enzian Ski Run, which was later moved to Bourke Street. The main snowmaking infrastructure was installed in 1994 at the Snowflake Factory on the top of Baldy. This included the water storage reservoir, air compressors, pump station and distribution pipelines for water and compressed air. The snowmaking system infrastructure and distribution pipelines were designed and built to accommodate future increases in capacity as coverage areas are increased. Due to the decreasing dependability of snowfalls attributed to climate change, the resort invested in snowmaking. Currently, the system includes 223 snow gun connection hydrants, with 81 connected to snowmaking guns, including 57 fan guns and 58 air/water guns. A new mobile Techo Alpin SF 100 snow factory will be installed before the 2019 season to supplement the existing Techno Alpin SF 220 Snow
