Description

Mount Stirling is a magnificent mountain located in the Victorian Alps of the Great Dividing Range.

It is situated in the Hume region of Victoria, Australia and has an altitude of 1,747-1,749 meters above sea level. The mountain is named in honour of James Stirling, a surveyor and later, the Victorian Government Geologist. The mountain is surrounded by the picturesque Stirling Circuit Road which provides access to other stunning mountains in the Victorian Alps. Mount Stirling offers breathtaking views of the nearby Mount Buller, and the high range that runs from Mount Cobbler through Mount Speculation and the Cross cut Saw, among other peaks. The mountain is surrounded by Alpine Ash forests, which give way to Snowgum Woodlands above approximately 1,400 meters and a small part of the summit area which sits above the treeline.

The Mount Stirling Alpine Resort is a world-famous cross-country and backcountry ski resort located on the slopes of Mount Stirling. It is approximately 230 kilometres away from Melbourne, making it an exclusive skiing getaway. The resort offers a fantastic skiing experience to beginner backcountry skiers and snowboarders, thanks to its distance from Melbourne and proximity to the Mount Buller Alpine Resort. The resort remains patrolled throughout winter to ensure visitors are safe. Visitors have access to high-quality maps of the abundant ski trails that can be obtained at the entry gate.

In summer, the Mount Stirling area is a favourite destination for four-wheel drivers, bushwalkers and outdoor enthusiasts.
