Description

Goldfields Reservoir is a tranquil lake located on the outskirts of Maryborough.

Built-in 1862, it is an ideal spot for a weekend family outing, with a range of facilities and activities to keep visitors engaged.

Goldfields Reservoir has three picnic areas, all equipped with picnic tables, and rubbish bins. The main picnic area, just beside the car park, is equipped with a wood fire BBQ. There is a second picnic area located partway around the walking track to the left, also with a wood fire BBQ. Finally, there is an electric BBQ picnic spot partway around the walking track to the right (you will need a 20c coin to operate it). The electric BBQ picnic area is also accessible via Maryborough-Ballarat Road. Toilets are located beside the main car park and a caravan Dump Ezy facility is also available.

Goldfields Reservoir is a popular spot for swimming. The best swimming area is located at the boat ramp and around the main picnic/parking area. Visitors can also enjoy a few other good swimming spots around the reservoir. It is important to note that children must be accompanied by adults as there aren’t any lifeguards present.

The nature-themed play-space is ideal for children to play and is situated right alongside the main picnic and parking area. It features a collection of logs, stumps, and rocks for children to jump and balance on.

The walking track circles the entire reservoir, providing a 1.7 km easy, pram-friendly, scenic walk. The track features interesting hand-made wooden barriers, multiple bridges, wetland areas, and water views. While walking, visitors can also see old gold diggings along the tracks around the far end of the reservoir.
