Description

Located where the Margaret River spills into the Indian Ocean, Margaret River Mouth Beach is a destination with a diverse and unique landscape.

This 60-kilometer river changes its shape and path as its level rises and falls with the movement of seasons and changes in catchment water volumes. The expansion and contraction of its banks have resulted in an incredible and sculptural quality to the landscape.

The contrast between the calm, brackish river and the wild, salty waves crashing onto the shore at Margaret River Mouth Beach is a sight to behold. Visitors can enjoy a range of activities on the river, such as young kids paddling on boogie boards or exploring the surrounding rock pools. At the same time, young surfers can take advantage of the numerous waves curling towards the rock and shore.

One of the most remarkable aspects of this beach is the impressive Layla sculpture created by Russell Sheridan. The sculpture depicts a woman breastfeeding a baby whale, which is a beautiful piece of art that overlooks the rock pools.

If you love trekking, the end of the beach towards the Cape Mentelle is a perfect spot. Tourists can complete a section of the world-renowned Cape to Cape track and descend to the soft sand and river crossing for the day's final push.

The best time to visit Margaret River Mouth Beach is during the summer months and early autumn. The beach is famous for being a prime surfing location, and waves typically range between 1-2 meters during this time, making it ideal for surfers. Visitors can often witness many talented young surfers showing off their skills on their shortboards or racing the wave face.
