Description

The Lilydale to Warburton Rail Trail is a stunning path that runs for 38 kilometers between Lilydale and Warburton, offering a fantastic walking, cycling, or horse-riding experience in the eastern Victoria region of Australia.

This trail is established on the former Warburton railway line and has become a favourite amongst locals and visitors alike.

The Warburton railway line was closed in July 1965 and the track was dismantled in the early 1970s, leaving the land vacant. In 1996, the trail was established following much opposition toward a proposal to sell the land from the community. The trail has been developed and maintained continually with the help of the Friends of the Lilydale to Warburton Rail Trail, local councils, and state and federal governments. The improvements to the trail include clearing land, restoring 13 bridges and surfacing the trail. Negotiations were also undertaken with neighboring farmers to build fences and gates where necessary. By 1998, the trail was continuous from Maroondah Highway, Lilydale, to the site of the former Warburton station. The remaining section of the trail, a bridge across the Maroondah Highway, was completed in early 2011. A crossing at York Road in Mount Evelyn went on to be another improvement to the trail, and it was completed in mid-2011.

The trail is accessible from all the townships it passes through, making it convenient for those looking to explore the eastern Victoria region. The trail offers a range of spectacular scenery from rolling hills, lush bushland to picturesque townships. It commences at Lilydale and stretches through Mount Evelyn, Wandin North, Seville, Seville East, Woori Y
