Description

Glenrock State Conservation Area is a protected conservation area located in New South Wales, Australia.

It encompasses 534 hectares and contains important remnant vegetation communities and cultural heritage sites. The park is significant for its natural and landscape values, cultural heritage values, recreational and tourism uses, and research and education opportunities. Glenrock Lagoon, fed by Flaggy Creek, is located within the park and connects to Burwood Beach and the ocean.

The park is legislated as a state conservation area under the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Act 1974, providing protection for biodiversity and cultural value. It allows for certain uses while considering the park's natural and cultural values and providing compatible visitor and tourist use.

Glenrock State Conservation Area is used by hikers, mountain bikers, horse riders, and other recreational activities. The Great North Walk passes through the park, which also offers camping facilities at Glenrock Scout Camp. Surfing, fishing, orienteering, and beach-related activities are also popular.

The park faces environmental threats from past land use practices, mining, development, and recreational activities. These threats include habitat disturbance, soil erosion, impacts to water quality, introduced plants and animals, fire management, and climate change. Efforts are being made to address these threats through a bush regeneration plan and fire management plan.

Several weed species, including bitou bush, lantana, and blackberry, are present in the park and are managed under the Noxious Weeds Act 1993. Bitou bush is a major environmental weed in the area and is listed as a key threatening process under the Threatened Species Conservation Act 1995. The park's bush regeneration plan and pest management strategy target the management of this species.
