Description

H E Parker Reserve Heathmont is home to the recently completed Maroondah Nets, a state-of-the-art multi-sports facility.

The complex, owned and managed by Maroondah City Council, was built at a cost of $16.5 million and funded by the Victorian and Australian Governments. It used to be the former netball facilities but has undergone significant upgrades to accommodate a variety of sports, including netball, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, and wheelchair sports. The facility also includes outdoor netball courts built to new surface standards.

The design of the Maroondah Nets was done by Co-Op Studio, utilizing the existing footprint of the netball courts. The complex has a general height of approximately 11 meters and features a subtle color palette that blends with the natural landscape. The indoor complex includes four netball courts, a kiosk, new toilets, changing facilities, officials and first aid rooms, and multi-purpose rooms. The outdoor netball courts have spectator viewing areas and good connectivity to the indoor facilities. The complex also has grandstand seating for approximately 300 people and additional courtside seating for another 360 people. It is used by various sports associations, schools, community groups, and disability groups throughout the year.

The construction of Maroondah Nets took into consideration environmental management, with tree protection zones and offset planting within the H E Parker Reserve. The complex also incorporates elements of environmentally sustainable design, such as high-performance building fabric, efficient taps, rainwater tanks, LED lighting, solar panels, and energy-efficient heating and cooling solutions.
