Description

75 Mile Beach is a popular destination on the east coast of Fraser Island, stretching for approximately 120 km (75 miles) from Sandy Cape to Waddy Point.

It is known for its rugged beauty and is a haven for four-wheel-drive enthusiasts and fishermen. The beach also serves as a landing strip for light aircraft, so caution is advised.

For fishing enthusiasts, the beach offers extensive gutters and deep holes, perfect for catching tailor fish, bream, whiting, and flathead. The Tailor Run season from August to October is particularly popular. Aside from fishing, visitors can enjoy the stunning coastal landscapes and landmarks. Indian Head, a volcanic rock formation, offers breathtaking views at the north end of the beach. The Maheno shipwreck is another iconic attraction, providing a glimpse into the past. Additionally, the Champagne Pools, natural ocean rock pools filled with saltwater, are a must-visit in the north.

While 75 Mile Beach is open year-round, the best time for fishing is during the Tailor Run season. For sightseeing and relaxation, the months between April and November offer milder weather and fewer crowds.

To reach 75 Mile Beach, a 4WD vehicle is recommended. Visitors can hire one from Hervey Bay or Rainbow Beach or join a 4WD bus tour from either location. The drive from Rainbow Beach or Hervey Bay to the beach takes approximately 30-45 minutes, depending on the pickup location.
