Wineries in Fraser Coast Region

Queensland's wine industry is rapidly growing in response to global demand, fueled by a blend of wine production and tourism. Despite the generally hot, wet, and humid climate that exposes vineyards to fungal diseases, cooler areas within the state show great potential. The Granite Belt and South Burnett are the two officially recognized wine regions in Queensland, situated in the southeastern part of the state where more temperate conditions are found near the coast.

The Granite Belt, positioned southwest of Brisbane, stands out as one of Australia's highest wine regions, with vineyards soaring above 1000 meters. This region is esteemed for its production of Shiraz, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot, benefiting from a unique climate that includes subzero winter nights, spring frosts, cold nights at the beginning and end of the season, moderate humidity, and summer temperatures tempered by monsoon influences.

In contrast, the South Burnett wine region, located 200km northwest of Brisbane, is a youthful and dynamic area known for its Verdelho, Semillon, and Chardonnay offerings for white wine enthusiasts. Cabernet Sauvignon stands out as a flagship red wine variety in this region, while alternative grapes such as Barbera, Sangiovese, and Nebbiolo are carving their own niches in the area.
