Description

Located in the Mornington Peninsula National Park, near the Bass Strait, Pulpit Rock is a popular destination for visitors looking for an incredible geological formation.

This formation was created by volcanic activity over millions of years and has eroded constantly by large waves and heavy winds over time. As a result of this natural erosion, the rock acquired its unique and impressive appearance.

The base of Pulpit Rock is called Devils Desk (see image below). It is a stark contrast to the towering rock above due to its flat surface. The Devils Desk is a perfect spot for visitors to rest and take in the surrounding scenery.

Not only is Pulpit Rock a geological wonder, it has also inspired Australian artists. A painting of the rock by Nicholas Chevalier (1828–1902) is held in the Art Gallery of New South Wales. Visitors can witness firsthand the natural wonder that inspired the mesmerizing artwork of the talented artist.

Pulpit Rock is a must-see destination for tourists visiting Mornington Peninsula National Park. Witnessing this unique geological formation and the surrounding beauty of nature is an experience that should not be missed.
