Description

Welcome to Braeside Park, a 310-hectare metropolitan, recreational, and conservation park located in the south-eastern Melbourne suburb of Braeside.

The park has a rich history, starting with its original inhabitants, the Bunurong people, and has gone through various owners and land uses before Parks Victoria took over in 1982.

Braeside Park is made up of different natural environments, including wetlands, heathlands, and red gum woodlands. The wetlands provide a habitat for water-dependent birds, with a mix of native and introduced plant species. The heathland is filled with trees, shrubs, grasses, and groundcovers, while the red gum woodlands consist of river red gums and introduced pasture grasses due to past cattle grazing.

Visitors to Braeside Park can enjoy a range of features, including multi-use trails for hiking and biking, a picnic area, unique tree stump art carvings, and a community garden. There is also a 24-hour car park available at the park's entrance. Birdwatching is popular in the park, with a variety of water-dependent bird species to be spotted.

The park also houses the Heathland Conservation Zone, a restricted-access area aimed at preserving and enhancing the heathland habitat. Visitors can learn about the importance of preserving these ecosystems and their value for local flora and fauna.

Come and explore the diverse offerings of Braeside Park, from hiking to art and birdwatching.
