Description

The Lake Benalla Fishway, also known as vertical fishway or fishladders, is a unique vertical barrier fishway in the Goulburn Broken Catchment area of Victoria, Australia.

It is a joint project by the Goulburn Broken Catchment Authority and the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to protect fish and enable safe migration past barriers.

Visitors to the Lake Benalla Fishway can witness fish migration and learn about the fish species that rely on the fishway. Fishing enthusiasts can also enjoy fishing for native fish like Murray cod, freshwater catfish, and brown trout. The nearby area offers picnic spots with scenic views of the surrounding lake.

The Lake Benalla Fishway is open year-round, but the best time to visit is during the summer and autumn months when the weather is warmer and native fish migration is more prominent.

Located in Benalla, Victoria, the fishway is part of the Lake Benalla precinct, which features picnic areas and walking paths. It is easily accessible by car with ample parking space available. Public transport buses also provide access to the park, with the closest bus stop located on Fawckner Drive, a short walk away.
