Amamoor State Forest

Amamoor State Forest and Forest Reserve is a beautiful sub-tropical rainforest in Queensland, Australia.

The forest is characterized by lush vegetation, including white cedar, red cedar, hoop pine, and Bunya pine. It is also home to various endangered species such as the platypus and several species of frogs.

The forest offers two camping areas operated by the QPWS. The Amamoor Creek Camping Area is spacious and hosts the annual Gympie Music Muster. The Cedar Grove Camping Area is slightly smaller but still suitable for large groups. For picnics, visitors can go to the well-equipped Amama Day-Use Area, although camping is not allowed there.

There are several walking trails in the forest for those who want to explore on foot. The Amama Day-Use Area offers the 1.5 km Amama Walk, which takes about 40 minutes. The Cedar Grove Camping Area has the 1 km Rainforest Walk, which can be completed in 30 minutes, as well as the 4.6 km Cedar Grove Hiking Trail that takes two to three hours. The Amamoor Creek Camping Area features the 2.5 km Amamoor Creek Hiking Trail, which takes about an hour.

No matter which trail you choose, you will be surrounded by a diverse range of plant and animal life. The park station is located on Amamoor Creek Road, about 180 kilometers north of Brisbane and 20 kilometers southwest of Gympie. The terrain is elevated, sitting at around 226 meters, so be prepared for a subtropical climate.
